At the Surf the Wave Intensive in the Midlands, Trevelyan Wright of Newhampton Arts Centre raised the issue of dance programming in his locality when it is so close to Birmingham. Committed dance audiences would travel into Birmingham to see work and so what could Wolverhampton venues provide for their local audiences. Surf the Wave supported an initial meeting to discuss how Wolverhampton Venues could work together to programme quality dance. The initial meeting was attended by Black Country Touring, Newhampton Arts Centre, Black Country Dance Hub, Wolverhampton University and Arena Theatre. The group are currently planning working with a dance specialist to explore the value in join programming and how longer term engagements with artists might work.
