UK Dance Showcase 2019 full programme announced
Surf The Wave, a project run by Pavilion Dance South West (PDSW) has today announced the full programme and schedule for the UK Dance Showcase, 16 – 19 May 2019.
The showcase is aimed at programmers who currently present, or who would like to present, dance in their venue, festival, museum, gallery space or any other context, with an emphasis on touring in the UK.
The full schedule includes a total of 43 artists and companies who will present and pitch work for a range of contexts and audiences. They will perform in venues at Pavilion Dance South West, St Peter’s Church, Halo nightclub and outdoor locations around Bournemouth, as well as at the Lighthouse in Poole, where they will use the venue’s studio, concert hall, main stage and even the car park. There will be opportunities for networking, talks and pitching sessions in which artists and producers will present new ideas.
Several shows in the showcase will be open to the general public to purchase tickets. These shows all take place at the Lighthouse in Poole and tickets are available through the Lighthouse’s box office. The first on Friday 17 May at 7.30pm is a double bill by “Strictly” favourites Candoco Dance Company who will perform Yameen Godder’s Face In, and Scottish Dance Theatre who present Ritualia by Colette Sadler. On Saturday 18 May at 4.30pm, Surf The Wave present a mixed bill of short dance works featuring Agudo Dance Company which sees Jose Agudo perform with kathak dancer Mavin Khoo, Kloe Dean’s Myself UK Dance Company who present RED and Tom Dale Company who will perform SURGE featuring Jemima Brown.
Audiences in Bournemouth will also have a chance to experience some of the performances on offer at the showcase. On Saturday 18 May, there will be a programme of free outdoor work on the Terraces outside Pavilion Dance South West, in Bournemouth’s Lower Gardens, at The Clock on Old Christchurch Road, in The Square in central Bournemouth and on Pier Approach. Companies performing in this programme include Joss Arnott Dance, Company Chameleon, Vanessa Grasse and Mickael Marso Riviere.
The showcase will also feature a number of talks ranging in subject matter from marketing and audience engagement, to getting the most out of the showcase opportunity, to making work for children and family audiences. These have been curated using feedback from the projects intensives programme which started in 2018.
The talks will be complemented by facilitated networking events, a recharge and connect area for laptop and phone charging, and meeting spaces available for reservation in places such as beach huts on Bournemouth beach and the Swan Pedalos in Poole.
Speaking about the programme, Sheila Creevey, Director of Surf The Wave said
“We’re really excited that we have managed to programme so many artists and companies at the showcase and that we have been able to curate talks that will continue conversations started at our intensives. The showcase will represent the crest in the wave of events that make up the Surf The Wave project and we can’t wait to see the effect that this momentum will have on the dance industry.”
