Ways of Being Together
Jo lives in Wales & is a Peilot Associate Artist with Chapter Arts Centre, Associate Artist with Chinese Arts Now (CAN) & Research Associate with SE Dance.
She’s a director, choreographer and performer working in dance, theatre, opera and live art. Her dance career includes performances with Rambert, Rosas & DV8 Physical Theatre , recent collaborations include working with National Theatre Wales, National Dance Company Wales, Welsh National Opera and Quarantine.
Jo Fong has been developing her practice and has been working with everyone; actors, dancers, Pilates teachers, clowns, singers, musicians, a 4 year old boy, her neighbours, and the man who works for the water board…
Jo has begun creating reworks of a performance piece that is grounded in a process called Ways of Being Together. Originally the work was formed though her year long Creative Wales Award project that culminated in an evening length performance with a cast of 46 for Cardiff Dance Festival 2017.
The practice continues and Jo will create a new work with Contact Dance Company (Shropshire Inclusive Dance) and form a 50% East Asian cast of 40 people for a remake in London for CAN Festival 2020. The performances are part of a broader picture that is centred on the question: What is Community? Jo is interested in, who we see on stages and opening up the view of participation through the professional lens.
Jo Fong is interested in being there, connection, quality time and investment. How can new work have life, impact within a group / community and live beyond the moment of performance. Professional performance that is forming community and community that is forming professional performance.
Jo is currently touring UK and International venues: Ways of Being Together, An Invitation… and Neither Here Nor There created with artist Sonia Hughes.
