Confessions of a Cockney Temple Dancer
Shane Shambhu is a compelling performer, who reveals his life story growing up in East Ham with a dream to be a professional Indian dancer in Britain. As a Complicite Associate, Shane’s contemporary storytelling comes alive with video projection, comedy stand-up routines peppered with characters from Shane’s life, that will have audiences laughing out loud. This 70-minute show has been successfully touring during 2018-19.
“Shane’s show is stunning, a really good quality dance experience with some very strong themes and messages” Kerry Bartlett, Executive Co-Director Artsreach Dorset 14th November 2018
“Confessions of a Cockney Temple Dancer carries its complex social-political and theatrical irony lightly, resulting in a highly entertaining show that asks some deep and resonant questions about the place of South Asian culture in contemporary British society. Shambhu is a wonderfully warm guide through the minefield of his own dance journey; and it’s not every day you get to see a grown man wrestle a wig on stage.” Lise Smith The Place 29th September 2017 Pulse Connects
“Confessions – does what it says on the tin: a brilliant conversation on dance and identity, with impeccable characterisation and movement, leavened by infectious wit. A one-man tour de force for today.” Jatinder Verma Artistic Director, Tara Arts 22nd October 2018
