Sadler’s Wells New Wave Associate, Alexander Whitley pitches his new series of works exploring ideas related to technology and big data, made in collaboration with Dutch artists, Children of the Light and creative technologists, Studio FENYCE.

Strange Stranger is inspired by the concept of the data shadow, the online profile we develop through our routine interaction with digital technology. This production combines 20-minute performances within an interactive light installation and public participation. It is suitable for studios, galleries and alternative spaces.

Overflow will build on these choreographic and design ideas for a full-length stage production exploring the phenomenon of ‘big data’ and its effects on knowledge, freedom and bodily presence.

Strange Stranger was co-commissioned by York Mediale and Sadler’s Wells. Supported by Arts Council England, Cockayne – Grants for the Arts and the London Community Foundation, Bonnie Bird New Choreography Fund, Queen Mary University of London, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and Rambert
